First came the problem

A boat lift is a pendulum.

Your boat sits on bunk boards bolted to two I-beams, and those I-beams hang from cables. In a tropical storm the cradle swings, the cables fray, the pilings take side loads they were never built for, and the lift lets go.

In September 2022 Hurricane Ian did exactly that across the SW Cape. Keith, thirty-five years an installation specialist, went looking for something to stop his own lift swinging and couldn't find one built well enough. So he built it.

Under five minutes, no tools. Raise the lift, drop the arms, pin them, tighten two turnbuckles.

Storm prep, start to finish

Deployed before the first rain band.

The arms live on your pilings year-round, stored out of the way. When a storm is coming:

1

Raise the lift

Raise it to the height indicator on the piling. That's storm height, and the height the arms were set for at install.

2

Drop and pin the arms

Unhook each arm from its piling and pin it to the I-beam clamp with the tethered pin. No tools, nothing to lose over the side.

3

Tighten the turnbuckles

Snug the two patent-pending turnbuckle arms and lock them. The lift and pilings are now one structure. Add a padlock to the pins and nobody's lowering it either.

Two answers decide it

Which system fits your lift?

Every quote starts with the same two questions. Answer them here and the request form opens already filled in, so we can quote on the callback instead of asking again.

1 · Can you reach all four pilings from the dock?
2 · Boat lift capacity

Boat Lift Lock works with any conventional boat lift, with or without access to all four pilings. Concrete pilings and angled lifts get measured on the site visit.

Your system

Answer question 1

Both configurations use the same four-arm principle: the arms connect the I-beams to the pilings so the lift and the pilings become one rigid structure. The only question is which pilings you can walk to.

Hurricane Helene · Sept 26, 2024

The first real storm test.

Ed got his Grady buckled down on his new Boat Lift Lock and texted Keith: easy to use, very tight, no sway at all. At 11:29 the morning Helene came up the Gulf, he texted again.

Wind is howling and boat is not moving.

Ed, Boat Lift Lock owner, 11:29 AM during Helene
  1. Before landfall · “All buckled down.” Lift at storm height, arms pinned.
  2. 11:29 AM · Wind howling across the canal. The boat doesn't move.
  3. Next storm · The rest of this page is how to get it on your lift before it.

I have two boat lifts with concrete pilings. One of the lifts is at an angle to the dock, which only allowed me to reach one piling. Boat Lift Lock engineered a system that would automatically engage the three nonreachable pilings and I could manually engage the reachable piling. The engineering and machine work are amazing and the parts look like a piece of art. Boat Lift Lock were meticulous with the install on both lifts, making sure everything fit and worked properly. Their service is also world class. After they installed the system on the larger lift, the people who installed the lift came out and installed a walk board. Unfortunately, they didn’t install it so that it would not interfere with the Boat Lift Lock. I called Keith when I discovered this and he said he would be right over the next morning. Even though this was not a Boat Lift Lock issue, Keith corrected the other vendor’s error and my lift was usable again. Their response is fast and they really care about their customers. This system gives me the piece of mind that my boats will be as secure as they can be during a storm. It is very easy to use and I can have both of my boats secured in less than five minutes. The boats are very rigid on the lifts and will not swing or sway. I travel a lot, so if I’m gone, my wife can easily engage the Boat Lift Lock by herself. No climbing all over the lifts and boats trying the strap everything together. This was well with the investment and I’m very happy with the system and the great people at Boat Lift Lock.

This system is built like a tank, oversize everything. I have no doubt it would handle securing my 30' cat in a major hurricane. It is so easy to engage and disengage that I raise my boat up even for a short business trip. This couple has the best customer experience you could ever dream about. Check it out!
